Fletcher Allen's Chief Medical Officer to Step DownBURLINGTON, VT -- Today, Fletcher Allen Health Care announced the resignation of John R. Brumsted, M.D., as the institution's chief medical officer, and president of the institution's Faculty Practice, effective November 15, 2005. He also will step down from his position as senior associate dean for Clinical Affairs at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.Following completion of his administrative duties, Brumsted will continue to practice medicine at Fletcher Allen and remain on the College of Medicine faculty as professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist with a sub-specialty in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. "After shepherding the faculty practice restructuring effort, I believe it is time for new leadership to take it forward," said Brumsted. "Following the transition period, I plan to do what I enjoy most - taking care of patients, both in and out of the operating room, teaching students, residents and fellows, and engaging in clinical research." "Dr. Brumsted has been an integral part of Vermont's Academic Health Center for many years," said Melinda Estes, M.D., president and chief executive officer, Fletcher Allen Health Care. "He has been called upon to serve in several leadership positions and has done so with dedication and commitment to the success of our mission. I am pleased that he will remain with us after he completes his administrative duties and continue to pursue his passion for excellence in patient care, education and research." Dr. Brumsted has been an attending physician at Fletcher Allen since 1985. He has also served in several administrative positions. Brumsted served as interim executive vice president of Fletcher Allen from October through December 1997. In January 1998, Brumsted was appointed to his current position as chief medical officer. At the same time he was also named interim chief executive officer, a post he held through June 1998. He was appointed president of the Faculty Practice in July 2005. In 1996 and 1997, Brumsted was recognized as one of Vermont's "Best Doctors" in "The Best Doctors in Doctors in America: Northeast Region 1996-1997," published by Woodward/White, a South Carolina-based research firm. |
