Fletcher Allen To Hold Free Ovarian Cancer Conference

Educational Program Planned for Saturday, September 18th

BURLINGTON, VT - The Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Fletcher Allen Health Care, in alliance with The University of Vermont College of Medicine, is presenting "An Educational Program on Ovarian Cancer", Saturday, September 18, 2004, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center in South Burlington.

Despite major advances made in the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of ovarian cancer, there are still many misconceptions regarding this potentially treatable condition.  According to the American Cancer Society, more than 25,000 American women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year.  The conference is designed to better inform the public about ovarian cancer from the perspective of both patient and physician.

Among the events planned are presentations by Cheung Wong, MD, director of Gynecologic Oncology at Fletcher Allen; and Fletcher Allen Genetic Counselor Wendy McKinnon, MS, CGS; both of whom are also assistant professors at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.  Also presenting will be Richmond, Vermont, resident Sherry Daniels, an ovarian cancer survivor.

"An Educational Program on Ovarian Cancer" is free and open to the public.  For more information and to reserve a space for the event, please call (802) 847-5110.
