Monheimer Named to Fletcher Allen BoardBURLINGTON, VT - Marc H. Monheimer has been appointed to the Fletcher Allen Board of Trustees by the University of Vermont to replace Richard Dennis. Monheimer is an adjunct professor at the University of Vermont School of Business Administration and a consultant to the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), a Washington, D.C. based federal agency from which he retired in 2004 as Associate General Counsel. OPIC assists American businesses that are expanding into under-developed countries by providing loans, loan guarantees, and political risk insurance to them. "I welcome Marc to the board of Fletcher Allen with great pleasure," said William Schubart, chair of the Fletcher Allen Board of Trustees. "Marc brings deep experience in law, business finance, and regulatory compliance to this board. I look forward to his participation." "Fletcher Allen is an outstanding institution," Monheimer said. "I am honored to serve on its board. I am committed to helping the hospital achieve the excellence of which it is capable and operate in a sensitive and responsible manner." Monheimer served as senior commercial counsel and, later, associate general counsel with OPIC from 1995 to 2004. He was also an adjunct professor of Law at Georgetown University for the academic years 2003 and 2004. Prior to joining OPIC, he served as senior advisor to the Archivist of the United States for one year. Monheimer was in private law practice in San Francisco from 1958-1993. An honors graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and its law school, Monheimer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science earned in 1952 and a Juris Doctorate degree earned in 1957. Monheimer served as an officer in the United States Army from 1952-1954, during which time he received a Bronze Star for meritorious service. Throughout his career, Monheimer has also served on the boards of numerous non-profit institutions and foundations as well as on city and school boards in Berkeley, Calif. Monheimer resides in Burlington, VT with his wife, Louise Stoll, a former assistant secretary of Transportation for Budget and Programs and chief financial officer of the United States Department of Transportation. Many of their five children and eight grandchildren also reside in Vermont. Background on the Fletcher Allen Board of Trustees The Fletcher Allen Health Care Board of Trustees has 18 members. Fletcher Allen's four parent organizations - Fanny Allen Corporation, Vermont Health Foundation, University Health Center and the University of Vermont - each appoints four trustees to the board. In addition to these 16 members, the chief executive officer is an ex officio board member, and the chair of the board is elected by the other trustees. The president of the Medical Staff of Fletcher Allen also attends all board meetings by invitation, but does not vote. |
