Gilbert Named to Fletcher Allen BoardBURLINGTON, VT - A. Donald Gilbert, Jr., was recently appointed to the Fletcher Allen Board of Trustees by the Vermont Health Foundation to replace Elisabeth Robert. Gilbert has served as president and chief executive officer of Vermont Gas Systems, Inc., since 2001 and has been with the company in a variety of management roles including marketing, finance, business planning and regulatory affairs since 1987. "I am very pleased that Don Gilbert has agreed to serve on the Fletcher Allen Board," said William Schubart, chair of the Fletcher Allen Board of Trustees. "His range of expertise and experience in the public utility field, as well as his long-standing ties to Vermont, will be an enormous asset to the board." "Over the years I have learned first hand how fortunate we are in Vermont to have access to a dedicated team of medical professionals and the excellent services they provide at Fletcher Allen," Gilbert said. "I am honored to be asked to join the Fletcher Allen board and look forward to working with its management to continue to provide outstanding medical services to our community." Gilbert also has served as a utilities analyst with the Vermont Public Service Board (1984-1987) and as a project engineer with the Vermont Public Power Supply Authority (1982-1984). Prior to that, he was employed by the E.I. Dupont Company, Wilmington, Delaware (1977 to 1982). A 1977 graduate of the University of Vermont, Gilbert holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Rochester in 1982 with a double major in finance and economics. Gilbert resides in South Burlington, VT with his wife Sue and their children Maurine and Scott. Background on the Fletcher Allen Board of Trustees The Fletcher Allen Health Care Board of Trustees has 18 members. Fletcher Allen's four parent organizations - Fanny Allen Corporation, Vermont Health Foundation, University Health Center and the University of Vermont - each appoint four trustees to the board. In addition to these 16 members, the chief executive officer is an ex officio board member, and the chair of the board is elected by the other trustees. The president of the Medical Staff of Fletcher Allen also attends all board meetings by invitation but does not vote. |
