Immediate (December 29, 2004) Maria McClellan Fletcher Allen Public Relations (802) 847-2886 Dennis Resigns from Fletcher Allen Board BURLINGTON, VT -- The Fletcher Allen Health Care Board of Trustees is preparing to fill one additional seat on its 18-member Board following the recent resignation of Richard Dennis. Richard Dennis, a retired AT&T executive and former University of Vermont Board chair, resigned his seat on the Fletcher Allen Board on December 14, citing health reasons. A resident of Poultney, Vermont, Dennis was appointed to the Fletcher Allen Board by the University of Vermont in May 2003. Dennis is the fourth Fletcher Allen trustee to resign in 2004. It is expected that the University will present his replacement in the next several weeks. "Dick brought a depth of experience with, and sensitivity to, the health care needs of the community that greatly enriched the Board's decision making," said William Schubart, chair of the Fletcher Allen Board. "I am sad that he is stepping down, and we wish him the very best." Background on the Fletcher Allen Board of Trustees The Fletcher Allen Board of Trustees has 18 members. Sixteen of the 18 members are appointed by Fletcher Allen's four parent organizations: University Health Center, Fanny Allen Corporation, Vermont Health Foundation and the University of Vermont. Each of these organizations appoint four trustees to the Board, working closely together to meet the needs of the overall Board. In addition to these 16 members, the chief executive officer is an ex officio Board member, and the chair of the Board is elected by the other trustees. The president of the Medical Staff of Fletcher Allen also attends all Board meetings by invitation but does not vote. |
