Fletcher Allen To Fill Three Open Board of Trustees Seats

BURLINGTON, VT --  The Fletcher Allen Health Care Board of Trustees is preparing to fill three open seats on its 18-member Board before the end of the year.  Board members  Nancy Chard, Henry "Sam" Chauncey and Cornelius "Con" Hogan all have decided to step down from the board:

Nancy Chard, a retired Vermont legislator from Windham County who was named to the Fletcher Allen Board in 2003, has resigned.  She was appointed to the Board by the University of Vermont in May, 2003, and her term ends this December.  It is expected that the University will present her replacement at the upcoming annual meeting of the Fletcher Allen Board in December.

Henry "Sam" Chauncey, an Andover, Vermont, select board member and former hospital administrator in Connecticut, announced that he will not seek reappointment when his term ends in December.  Chauncey was appointed to the Board by the Vermont Health Foundation in December, 2002.  It is expected that the Vermont Health Foundation will present his replacement at the December meeting of the Fletcher Allen Board.

Cornelius (Con) Hogan, who served as Secretary of the Agency of Human Services in Vermont from 1991-1999, resigned in August.  He was appointed to the Board by the Fanny Allen Corporation in December, 2002.  It is expected that Fanny Allen will present his replacement at the December meeting of the Fletcher Allen Board.

"All three of the trustees who have chosen to step down will be greatly missed," said William Schubart, Chair of the Fletcher Allen Board. "The strength of the current Board is its breadth and diversity, both in experience and in points of view represented. I am most grateful to Nancy, Sam and Con for their hard work and commitment to Fletcher Allen's success."

The annual meeting of the Fletcher Allen Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, December 14, at 2:00 p.m. in the Burgess Building on the Medical Center Campus in Burlington.

Background on the Fletcher Allen Board of Trustees

The Fletcher Allen Board of Trustees has 18 members.  Sixteen of the 18 members are appointed by Fletcher Allen's four parent organizations: University Health Center, Fanny Allen Corporation, Vermont Health Foundation and the University of Vermont.  Each of these organizations fill four positions on the board, working closely together to meet the needs of the overall board.  In addition to these 16 members, the chief executive officer and a board chair round out the 18-member board.
