The Economic Impact of Fletcher Allen Health Care As the second largest private employer in the state -- with approximately 6,700 employees, including 1,650+ nurses and a medical staff of 771 and 280 physicians-in-training – Fletcher Allen is a major economic force in the region with operating revenues of $744 million in fiscal year 2007. A 2003 report on the economic impact of Vermont’s hospitals found that one job at Fletcher Allen, along with capital investment, stimulates another job the state in other job categories such as retail, construction and government. Including these “indirect” jobs, Fletcher Allen has created more than 9,000 jobs, which generate $847.4 million in personal income. In addition, research funding generated by the University of Vermont College of medicine and Fletcher Allen Health Care has nearly doubled in the last decade averaging $84 million annually from 2002 - 2007. |
