Why Do We Have an Integrity and Compliance Program?

Health care has become increasingly more complex in recent years.  The business of health care and its costs has become everyone's concern.  As a result, there has been growing emphasis on ensuring that violations of state and federal health-care laws and regulations are detected and prevented. Compliance programs play an important role in helping health care organizations fulfill their obligations to public and private payors, bondholders and the community at large.  More importantly, they help organizations serve as good corporate citizens.

What is the Purpose of the Program?

The Integrity and Compliance Program has been developed in the context of our core missions of patient care, teaching, and research.  The Integrity and Compliance Department is responsible for ensuring that Fletcher Allen's actions comport with the legal requirements of our industry and to foster an environment in which each employee acts with the highest ethical standards.

The specific purposes of the program are to:

  • Foster a culture of compliance at Fletcher Allen
  • Educate all employees on what to do to be in compliance with federal and state statutes
  • Ensure that employees feel comfortable and safe when raising compliance issues
  • Establish a clear, expeditious and practical process for obtaining answers to compliance questions
  • Document efforts to comply with applicable statutes, regulations and program requirements
  • Implement an effective system of audit and remediation.
