A variety of services are available to help people who require some
assistance in meeting their daily needs at home. These services can
be provided in order to allow someone to remain independent, or as an alternative to nursing home care. Remember to do comparative shopping, i.e., checking references, cost, availability, licensing requirements, etc., when looking at available services.

If you are homebound and need skilled nursing care in your home for the treatment of an illness or injury, Medicare or Medicaid may pay for covered home health services with a certified provider. Medicare covered home health services include: part-time skilled nursing care and home health aide, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and hospice services.
HOME CARE PROVIDERS AND COMPANION SERVICES
These are non-Medicare covered home care services. Providers can assist with personal care (bathing, dressing and grooming), light housekeeping/chores, preparing meals, shopping and laundry. In addition to these organizations, there are private individuals and small businesses that provide a range of in-home services. HOME AND COMMUNITY BASED MEDICAID WAIVER
Provides funding through Medicaid for people eligible for nursing home care to remain at home. Services available include personal care, adult day care, case management, respite care and assistive technology. A related program, the Enhanced Residential Care Home Waiver, can assist eligible individuals with the cost of living in some Residential Care Homes. ADULT DAY CARE
VNA Adult Day Programs
In collaboration with Fletcher Allen Health Care
Therapeutic day programs are available for disabled and frail adults at two locations throughout the week. Transportation is available in some parts of the greater Burlington area and nutritious meals and snacks are provided on site. Activities include exercise, gardening, cooking, art, games, crafts, music, and print events discussions.

A model social adult day care program for frail elders. Participants will receive specially supervised socialization, activities such as music, exercise and crafts, noon meals, snacks, beverages and more. Families will get respite, knowing their loved ones are in a safe and caring environment. This program is a collaborative effort with the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA).
