WELCOME to the information page for the Procedural Dermatology Fellowship Program at the University of Vermont/Fletcher Allen Health Care.

This one-year fellowship in Procedural Dermatology / Mohs Surgery, under Dr. Glenn D. Goldman, is approved by the ACGME and American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology (ACMMSCO).  The fellowship is designed to provide a comprehensive training experience for those dermatologists seeking to acquire advanced competence as a dermatologic surgeon.

As outlined by the ACGME, this program provides an organized education in all aspects of procedural dermatology and includes: basic science, anatomy, anesthesia, ethics, pre- and post- operative management, surgical technique, wound healing, Mohs micrographic surgery, laboratory technique, interpretation of pathologic specimens related to Mohs micrographic surgery, cutaneous reconstruction of surgical defects, sclerotherapy, chemical peel, hair transplantation, dermabrasion, cutaneous soft tissue augmentation with injectable filler material, rhinophyma correction, cutaneous oncology, laser surgery, epidemiology, medicolegal and regulatory issues, quality assurance, and self-assessment.

There is thorough training in facial reconstruction.  We perform approximately 900-1000 cases of Mohs surgery each year.  We repair 98% of the surgical defects in our clinic.  Incoming fellows are provided with graduated surgical responsibility as they refine their surgical techniques and competence.  We also enjoy a close relationship with our colleagues in Oculoplastics, ENT/Facial Plastics, and Plastic Surgery.

In October 2005 we moved into the new Ambulatory Care Center at Fletcher Allen Healthcare.  This new space houses the majority of the medical and surgical outpatient clinics.  Our new dermatology space has five suites that are dedicated to procedural dermatology.

In addition to the surgical training, fellows are expected to contribute to the training of our dermatology residents, medical residents, and medical students.  Fellows are required to give a series of lectures relating to all aspects of dermatologic surgery.  It is expected that fellows will be involved in a research project and present their data at one of the national meetings.
