This program utilizes a number of educational methods including clinical rotations, didactic seminars, case presentations, individual supervision and tutorials.  Residents are also trained to develop scientific and presentation skills through the preparation of specific research and educational projects that are presented both within the program and at national meetings.   The first year of full time child psychiatry training at the PGY4 year emphasizes acute care and consult-liaison while the second year as a PGY5 contains additional outpatient experiences and more focused instruction on particular disorders.  Didactics, longitudinal outpatient work, and research training occur throughout the two year program.
