Dear Applicant: The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen Health Care (FAHC, Vermont's Academic Medical Center) offers an approved four-year residency program. Three residents are accepted at each level of training. A dedicated faculty, representing all subspecialties of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and our unusually stable patient base with a high volume of surgical cases are unique attributes of this program. A spectacular New England setting is an added benefit. The program is designed to enable residents to move confidently into clinical practice or to pursue careers in academic medicine, research, or advanced training in a subspecialty. Recognizing the tremendous expansion in factual knowledge that all medical sciences are experiencing, the department seeks to develop in residents the ability to continue self-education and to accommodate to new situations. Emphasis is equally placed on continuously developing decision-making skills as well as technical ability. The goal of the training program is to aid each individual achieve all the facets necessary for a physician (cognitive, emotional, and technical) and instill in them that this is a life-long task.
