Graduate Medical Education
Welcome to the residency and fellowship programs at Fletcher Allen and the University of Vermont (UVM) College of Medicine. We’re dedicated to providing university-based, academically-focused programs that provide a comprehensive and well-rounded training experience. Burlington provides the perfect backdrop for living and learning — offering awe-inspiring beauty and an unmatched quality of life.
Approximately 280 residents and fellows make their home at Vermont’s academic medical center, where we offer 15 residency and 22 fellowship programs. Year-in and year-out residents and fellows give us high marks for their experience. In fact, many choose to stay and live in Vermont following training. Forty-four of our 172 graduates from last year’s program are now practicing in Vermont, and 35 percent of Vermont physicians trained at Fletcher Allen/UVM.
At Fletcher Allen and UVM, we set the bar high. Fletcher Allen is committed to being a national model for the delivery of high-quality, academic health care for a rural region, while the UVM College of Medicine strives for excellence in educating the physicians of tomorrow and researching tomorrow’s cures. Collectively, we dedicate ourselves to achieving these goals each and every day, and invite those looking for a challenging training experience to join us.
