Medical students and medical residents at the University of Vermont have written the following patient summaries. They summarize previously published medical studies.  These summaries are provided to help consumers increase their knowledge of recent findings in medicine and assist in staying healthy and getting the best treatment possible.  All summaries are reviewed by Dr. Virginia Hood of the University of Vermont College of Medicine and Fletcher Allen Health Care.

This project is supported by the Frymoyer Scholars Program.

Information in these summaries should not be viewed as medical advice.  The information is provided for educational purposes.  You should not change any treatments or medication without first talking to your healthcare provider.
