Research
Research in the Echocardiography Laboratory has focused on the natural history and pathophysiology of mitral regurgitation. Studies from our laboratory have demonstrated the beneficial impact of mitral valve repair rather than replacement on long term ventricular function. We have characterized the effects of alteration in ventricular geometry on exercise performance and ventricular filling in patients with congestive heart failure. The group collaborates with Dr. Ades to characterize the effects of resistance training in elderly patients with coronary disease and with Dr. LeWinter in elucidation of mechanisms of left ventricular restoring forces.
