Overview

Electrophysiology Lab

Thanks to sophisticated technology and physicians who are among the leaders in this field, the Heart Rhythm Program at Fletcher Allen performs lifesaving and life-improving treatments for patients with electrical disorders of the heart.

Our program offers a wide range of treatments, including the implantation and management of pacemakers, defibrillators and biventricular-pacing devices. The group implants more than 200 of these devices a year.

A major focus of the group is radiofrequency ablation procedures for patients who require management of an abnormally fast heartbeat. The group performs up to 200 ablations a year, including successful ablations on patients who cannot be helped elsewhere.

Clinical Excellence

Our sophisticated electrophysiology laboratory is staffed by physicians and staff who possess a high level of expertise in this field that is virtually unmatched at major medical centers across the country. See our physician bios here.

Latest Technology

Cutting-edge technology at Fletcher Allen also provides patients with a distinct advantage. Thanks in part to our organization’s partnership with Philips Medical Systems – a global medical technology manufacturer – our lab features state-of-the-art equipment, and a variety of sophisticated 3-D mapping computer systems. This complex equipment can make treatment possible for some patients who would previously have been ineligible for advanced procedures.

Research and Education

Staff in scrubsIn addition to serving as doctors at Fletcher Allen, our physicians also serve as faculty at the University of Vermont College of Medicine – teaching and engaging in medical research. What does this mean to you? As an educator, your physician has the most up-to-date knowledge and training. As a scientist who performs research, your doctor provides you with access to the latest treatments and technology. These are benefits found only at an academic medical center.
