Education
Cardiology Fellows are offered extensive training in the evaluation and management of a wide range of patients with heart failure and cardiomyopathy (hypertrophic and dilated) who are encountered in our clinical facilities at Fletcher Allen Health Care and at outreach sites. These include both hospitalized patients and participants in the Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Outpatient Clinic.
In collaboration with the Cardiac Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia Service, Fellows are trained in indications for and placement of biventricular pacing devices (resynchronization therapy) for patients with dilated cardiomyopathy.
Referring physicians interested in gaining greater expertise in the management of heart failure are offered individually designed elective programs. Cardiology Unit faculty specializing in heart failure offer an annual update for regional and referring physicians. In addition, they provide regular lectures and seminars for medical students, medical residents, and fellows in cardiology.
