Neuro-oncology

Dr. Bruce Tranmer
Dr. Paul Penar
Dr. Michael Horgan
Dr. Ryan Jewell

All members of the Division of Neurosurgery are involved in the treatment of brain tumors and spinal cord tumors for adult and pediatric patients. The Division of Neurosurgery works closely with a number of other departments at Fletcher Allen Health Care.  Sophisticated neuro-imaging techniques such as spectroscopy help in the diagnosis of these lesions and state-of-the-art operating rooms allow us to provide our patients with the most up to date surgical techniques.  Neuro-navigation and microsurgical techniques are commonly used in the neurosurgical site.  The neurosurgeons collaborate with neuro-oncologists in deciding the best treatment for these patients. After initial treatment, the neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, and medical oncologists closely follow the patients.  Radio-surgery and conventional radiotherapy is available.  A "Brain Tumor Board" is held once a month.

For more information contact the Division of Neurosurgery at (802) 847-4590.
