Clinical Nutrition:

Inpatient Clinical Nutrition Services are available for patients on the Medical Center and Fanny Allen Campuses.  Questions can be directed to Room Service Central at (802) 847-2710.  Consults for inpatients can be requested via a physician's order, by computer, by contacting the unit dietitian via their pager, or by phoning Room Service Central at (802) 847-2710.  All Fletcher Allen Health Care Providers can request a nutrition consult.  It is helpful when specific details about the reason for the nutrition consult are noted.

Outpatient Medical Nutrition Therapy.

Medical Nutrition Therapy includes a comprehensive evaluation and focused education used to treat nutrition problems that are diagnosed by a physician.

Medical Nutrition Therapy includes the following:

- Review of personal eating habits and food preferences.

- Assessment of how these eating habits affect specific health concerns.

- Written and verbal instructions on improving eating habits to meet personal  nutrition goals or a physician's diet prescription.

- Practical tips and educational materials for assistance with food shopping and preparation, eating in restaurants, and changing dietary habits conveniently.

Physician referrals for individual appointments.

A physician referral is required for billing insurance carriers, providing that Medical Nutrition Therapy is a covered benefit in the plan.
