Conferences

Teaching is highly valued among the pediatric faculty. Our goal is to provide excellent training in the practice of general pediatrics. With this background, we expect graduates of our program to move into and perform well in a variety of fields including pediatric practice and pediatric subspecialty training leading to an academic career.

Conferences are planned by the chief resident and faculty.

These include:

Professors' Rounds
Attended by house staff, full-time faculty, and community faculty. Typically a general pediatric, PICU, NICU, or outpatient case presentation followed by a didactic session. Monday and Friday, 7:45 am to 8:30 am.

Housestaff Morning Report
Attended by house staff. Case presentation which focuses on the development of a differential diagnosis and discussion of management options; facilitated by a general pediatrician. Tuesday, 7:45 am to 8:15 am.

Residents' Teaching Conference
Attended by house staff. Three-year rotating curriculum developed by the faculty to cover topics of general and subspecialty pediatrics with lectures given by various faculty. Tuesdays, 8:15 am to 9:00 am, and Thursdays, 7:45 am to 8:30 am.

Pediatric Grand Rounds
Attended by house staff and faculty. Variety of topics presented by faculty and visiting physicians. Wednesdays, 8:00 am to 9:00 am.

Attending Rounds
Attended by respective Pediatric, PICU or NICU team members. Format and content vary with service and attending and include case presentations, didactic sessions, and bedside teaching. Three to five days per week; hours vary.

Radiology Rounds
Attended by respective Pediatric, PICU or NICU team members. Includes evaluation and discussion of daily radiographic studies with a pediatric radiologist and additional case-based learning from the radiology teaching library. Monday through Friday, 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Perinatology Conference
Attended by NICU team, High-Risk Obstetrics team, Pediatric Pathologist. Obstetric and NICU representations of recent deliveries with focus on pathophysiology. Monday, 12:15pm to 1:00 pm.

Ambulatory Pediatric Conference
Attended by individual continuity clinic teams. Rotating curriculum focusing on primary care issues. Thirty minutes prior to continuity clinic.

Chronic Disease Related Lectures
Attended by house staff and held monthly 30 minutes before the weekly clinic. Topics are from a rotating 3 year curriculum designed by the Hematology/Oncology faculty.

Research Conferences
Attended by interested house staff and faculty. Continuing series of evidenced based medicine and epidemiology sessions as part of the residents teaching. A forum for presenting department research recently completed (once monthly). A lecture/seminar series (5 1 hour sessions in August).
