Evidence in Practice
The Rehabilitation Therapies Department at Fletcher Allen Health Care is committed to evidence based practice. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values.
The Rehabilitation Services comprise diverse professions - Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology, Audiology, Clinical Health Psychology and Counseling, and Recreation Therapy. The scope of our work reflects the breadth and depth of our health care professionals.
All Rehabilitation Therapies staff are encouraged to participate in EBP activity. This includes topical literature reviews, critical article review and analysis, data driven quality improvement initiatives, development of evidence-based treatment guidelines, presentations at peer reviewed conferences, publications in peer reviewed journals, and clinical research.
We have three Clinical Research Educators whose role is to support staff in all of the above activities. They are:
- Marianne Orest PT MEd. marianne.orest@vtmednet.org
- Suzanne Lawrence PT suzanne.lawrence@vtmednet.org
- Sheila Reid PT MS sheila.reid@vtmednet.org
Additionally, we are fortunate to have a special collaborative research relationship with the Departments of Physical Therapy and Communication Sciences at the University of Vermont. This provides ongoing opportunities to share expertise, equipment, and facilities. Participation in collaborative research activity provides both educational and clinical benefits.
