DRIVER REHABILITATION PROGRAM

The ability to drive a motor vehicle is an important source of independence in our society. For a person with a disability or a medical condition, this kind of independence and freedom may seem out of reach.
The professionals at Fletcher Allen Health Care's Driver Rehabilitation Program can put this independence within reach for many. We use our training as occupational therapists together with our training as driver educators and driving rehabilitation specialists to assess the needs of each individual.
We provide the most comprehensive driving rehabilitation program in Vermont with services that serve individuals of all driving ages and abilities.
Our Services
The professionals at Fletcher Allen's Driver Rehabilitation Program provide the most comprehensive program in the region for:
- Senior Drivers: We offer a comprehensive evaluation and re-training for senior drivers.
- Driver Re-training: Individuals that have experienced a major medical event or are experiencing changes due to conditions such as a stroke, traumatic brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, or Parkinson’s can benefit from an evaluation and possible re-training of their driving skills.
- Novice Drivers: Specialized driver training for persons with Learning Disabilities, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, and Spina Bifida.
- Driving with Adaptive Equipment: Designed around your unique needs and strengths. We provide vehicle modification assessments for the driver with physical limitations. We provide assessment and training in our driver education vehicles that include a modified car and a handicap accessible van. We have low and high tech equipment to meet your needs.
- Low Vision Drivers: If you meet the state vision requirements set by the Department of Motor Vehicles but need assistance for learning to use bioptics or assistance for managing a visual field loss, then the driver rehabilitation program can help.
