Cardiothoracic Surgery: The Cardiothoracic Surgery section provides treatment and follow-up for all types of thoracic and adult cardiac surgical problems as well as limited pediatric cardiac pathology.

Emergency Services: Emergency Services encompasses so much more than the classic "ER". We are an integrated team providing episodic, urgent or emergent care to our service area. This area includes all of Vermont and parts of New York and New Hampshire. The centerpiece of Emergency Services is the Emergency Department at the Medical Center Campus of FAHC. The Medical Center Campus is a 500-bed tertiary-care hospital that is the major teaching hospital of the University of Vermont School of Medicine. Here, the team provides expert emergency care to over 51,000 patients of all shapes and sizes 24 hrs a day. Fletcher Allen is a Level-One Trauma Center, the highest level of certification provided by the American College of Surgeons for hospitals providing trauma care.

General Surgery - Gastrointestinal/Pancreas/Biliary Tract/Colorectal: This division provides diagnosis, management and follow-up for patients with a broad spectrum of problems including gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery, surgery for morbid obesity, hepatobilliary surgery, oncologic surgery, trauma surgery, critical care and nutritional support. Staff are trained to utilize the latest techniques including endoscopy, laparoscopy and other minimally invasive techniques.

Neurosurgery: The Neurosurgery section performs a full spectrum of technical Neurosurgical procedures currently in use for Cerebrovascular disease, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Stereotaxic and Pituitary Surgery, malignant brain tumors and spinal surgery.

Ophthalmology: The section of Ophthalmology offers diagnostic and treatment services for medical and surgical diseases of the cornea and retina, neuro-ophthalmology, cataract and intraocular lens implantation surgery, glaucoma, ocular trauma, medical and surgical diseases of the orbit and general ophthalmology.

Otolaryngology: Areas of interest and expertise for the physicians in Otolaryngology generally concern the ear, nose and throat and include: Maxillofacial Trauma; Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive surgery; Thyroid and Parathyroid surgery; Rhinoplastic and Reconstructive facial surgery; Functional Endoscopic Sinus surgery; Allergies; Pediatric Otolaryngology; and a comprehensive Otologic cochlear implant program. Specialized procedures allow assessment of complex hearing deficits in children and adults.

Pediatric Surgery: The Pediatric Surgery section provides comprehensive pediatric surgical services. This includes surgery of the head and neck, non-cardiac thoracic, gastrointestinal, urology, trauma, burns, chest wall and other congenital anomalies as well as pediatric intensive care. Pediatric endoscopic services include bronchoscopy, esophagoscopy, gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and a full range of laparoscopic procedures. Specialized services include pediatric hyperalimentation, vascular access, and airway problems.

Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery: This section focuses on defects in the surface of the body. Specific interests include congenital craniofacial abnormalities, Cutaneous malignancies, post-traumatic or post-surgical deformities causing aesthetic or functional disability, surgery of the hand, cosmetic surgery of the face and body, problems of localized wound healing, breast reconstruction and Microvasuclar surgery. Cosmetic and ablative laser procedures (i.e. telangiectasias, tattoos, and skin wrinkles) are performed in conjunction with the Fletcher Allen Vermont Laser Center. This section also founded and directs the Vermont State Craniofacial/Cleft Palate clinic. Here, early consultation with parents of the clefted or otherwise deformed child is designed to help allay fears about long term problems related to the deformity.

Surgical Oncology: The Surgical Oncology services are located within the Breast Care Center. The Breast Care Center is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary center for the evaluation and treatment of patients with breast problems. The staff provides an array of services for patients and their families and works closely with the primary care provider to ensure the best care possible. Other specialties of the division include melanoma, thyroid, parathyroid and sarcoma cancers.

Transplantation Surgery & Immunology: The Division of Transplantation Surgery & Immunology offers a variety of options for both Kidney and Pancreas transplantations. We also specialize in Liver Surgery and Liver transplantation.

Trauma Surgery/Critical Care: The Trauma/Critical Care service provides emergent care and surgery for injured or burned patients, as well as follow-up care. The service provides phone consultations and arranges transfers when appropriate. Patients are seen at the Ambulatory Services Center, 111 Colchester Avenue, Burlington for emergent care.

Urology: The Division of Urology offers state-of the art urologic services, including evaluation and management of all urologic cancers and incontinence, a prostrate cancer support group, and comprehensive medical and surgical evaluation of kidney stone disease. The Division also provides a full range of treatment options for the evaluation and treatment of infertility, a "no-scalpel" vasectomy procedure, and comprehensive evaluation and treatment of impotency.

Vascular Surgery: Vascular Surgery provides non-surgical and surgical treatments for patients with diseases of the vascular system emphasizing preventative advice such as exercise, prudent diet, and non-smoking. The "Vascular System" involves the circulation or the arteries and veins. Disorders of the vascular system include (1) hardening of the arteries, which leads to stroke, gangrene, or problems with walking, (2) aneurysms, which can "rupture" or burst, threatening one's life, and (3) thrombosis or clots in the veins, resulting in leg pain, swelling, and sometimes ulcers. The division performs approximately 400 major reconstructions per year, Cerebrovascular reconstructions, thoracic outlet procedures, aortic aneurysm repair and extremity bypasses. Working with podiatry the surgeons also provide foot care for diabetics.
