Please join us in our efforts to prevent the spread of infections in our hospital by performing hand hygiene.

A hand sanitizer dispenser is located in the critical care waiting room and outside every patient room. It is very important that you undertake hand hygiene before and after entering the patients' room.

Pastoral Services
A Chaplain is available for patients and their families 24 hours a day. The chapel is located off of the first floor corridor, between McClure and Smith 1 (across from the Health Center Pharmacy). It is open for prayer and meditation with the exception being when specific services are held.

Patient Representative
Fletcher Allen has a patient representative available to you and your family for any questions or concerns you may have about your hospital stay and can be reached at (802) 847-3500 or through the hospital paging system.

Parking
Patient and visitor parking is in the new underground parking garage. The entrance to the underground garage is located nearby the new main entrance to the Medical Center Campus. The main information desk is located on Level 2 as you enter from the parking garage. In addition, a drop-off area is located at the main entrance at the front of the Main Pavilion.

Valet parking is available at the main entrance Monday-Friday for $8.00 per car. Cars may be dropped of between 6 AM and 4 PM and picked up until 9 PM.

Please note: The parking garage located outside the McClure building is no longer being used for patient and visitor parking.

Favors
Favors is a free patient room service program provided for the comfort and convenience of Fletcher Allen patients. Favors operates Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM. A brochure listing all services may be obtained from the Unit Secretary.

Visitation Policy
Welcome to the McClure 3 Surgical/Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU). We have a relaxed visitation policy. All visitors please check in at the desk with the volunteer before entering, or use the phone to call in and speak with the secretary.

You are welcome to visit between 8:30 Am and 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM-11:00 PM. During these hours, please limit visitation to two visitors at a time.

We ask that you not visit between 7:00-8:30 AM and 7:00-8:30 PM to allow for change of shift report, unless pre-arranged with the nurse.

We ask that you limit your visitation between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM so that your loved one can rest, heal, and regain their strength.

Children under the age of 12 are not permitted without prior approval of the nurse caring for your loved one.

The staff of the ICU strives to provide the best care possible for your loved one. Therefore, we request that there is one designated spokesperson that will be responsible for relaying information to the rest of the family.

We ask that the use of cell phones be limited to the waiting room and not be used in the unit or patient's rooms. There is a public pay phone available in the hallway near the McClure elevators.

If your loved one is returning to the unit from surgery or tests, please allow an hour to settle them back into the room. There may be times when the patient's room or parts of the unit will be closed for procedures or emergencies. In addition, there may be times when the nurse will ask you to leave the ICU for patient care issues. You will be asked to wait in the waiting room during this time.

Thank you for your help and understanding with this policy.

Family Waiting Room:
The hospital has provided a waiting area immediately outside the ICU. Because of the limited space in this room and the volume of patients' families we must accommodate, we ask that you limit the number of family members in this room to 2 at any given time. There are additional waiting areas provided for you in the Ambulatory Care Center West Pavilion, Level 3 Surgical area, and in the East Pavilion Atrium. The ICU waiting room is closed twice daily for housekeeping.

For security reasons, lights must remain on at all times in the ICU waiting room. We ask that you not sleep in the ICU waiting room.

Personal Belongings:
Due to lack of storage space, please arrange to take all of the patient's belongings home with you except for personal hygiene items. Please keep all valuable with you.

Flowers:
Plants and flowers are not permitted in the Intensive Care Unit for infection control reasons.

Social Services:
Our Social Service department may be of assistance to you if you experience emotional, social, or financial concerns. Please let the nurse know if you would like to meet with Social Services and this can be arranged for you.

Lodging Information:
Lodging information may be obtained at the Secretaries' Desk or with Social Services. You may also check our Lodging web page.

Restrooms:
Restrooms are available for your convenience in the hallway by the McClure elevators.

Food:
Cafeterias are located in the McClure lobby and on the third floor Baird Building. Microwave ovens are available in both of these areas for your use. Click here to see current menus.

Hours of Operation:
McClure Deli and Grill - McClure Lobby
Open 5:00 AM-3:00 PM, 7 days/week

Main Street Café, 3rd Floor, Baird Building
Open Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-1:30 PM

Vending machines are also available on the 3rd floor in the Fletcher Building. Eating in patient's rooms is not permitted due to infection control reasons.

Library and Resource Center
A visitor library and the Community Health Resource Center are located in the Main Lobby of the Main Pavilion on Level 3. It is open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:00 AM-5:00 PM and Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 PM-5:00 PM.

Transportation
The College Street Shuttle is a free bus service that stops at the hospital at the Ambulatory Care Center lobby entrance on Level 3 every 15 minutes during the day Monday-Friday. It goes all the way to the waterfront, local shopping areas, and back.

The staff of the ICU realizes that it can be stressful to family and friends to have a loved one in the ICU. You can help your loved one, yourself, and the staff of the ICU by remembering to take care of yourself by getting adequate amounts of sleep and remembering to eat properly.

We thank you for your cooperation.

Respectfully,
The Surgical/Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Staff

Flowers are not allowed in the critical care patient rooms. Please ask friends and family to refrain from sending flowers until your loved one has been transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Personal Belongings:
Please arrange to take the patient's clothes and other items home with you except for personal hygiene items used in daily care.
