Sibling Celebration and Transition

On the Day You Were Born
by Deb Frasier
Beautiful illustrations and text celebrating our natural world as she extends a loving welcome to a new member of your family. (all ages)

If You were Born a Kitten
by Marion Dane Bauer
This book combines so much of what children love - animals, themselves as babies, and beautiful pictures.  It is a sweet representation of a mother’s love for her young. (ages 1-4)

Love Song for Baby  by Marion Dane Bauer
A beautiful book that tells a child in a hundred different ways how much he/she are loved.  It is such a sweet book to read over and over again.  My children never tired from hearing it.  (ages 1-5… but my 8 year old still likes to hear it!)

A Child is Born  by Lennart Nilsson
An amazing classic with incredible in utero photos that will leave your sibling wide eyed and curious.  The text is great for adults and some children but the photos tell it all.  A great book to show the “big picture”.

The New Baby in The House  by Joanna Cole
A photographic look with clear supportive text that helps prepare children for the ups and downs of having a new baby in the house.  A much loved classic.  (ages 2-6)

The Night You were Born  by Wendy Mccormick
An endearing story about a boy waiting for new baby sister to be born.  It captures the medley of emotions a child feels as they are expecting a new sibling, while concentrating on the joy of the event.  It warms your heart and soul from start to finish.

Baby Talk  by Fred Hiatt
Joey is a toddler and he has a new brother.  He keeps his distance until he hears something different from the baby other than a cry.  He bonds to him over conversations of baby goo-goos and babbles.  Captures the growing love of siblings. (ages 3-7)

Daddy’s Lullaby  by Tony Bradman
Everyone who reads this book falls in love with it.  It is a treasure about the love a father has for his baby, toddler and wife.  A beautiful story.  (birth to age 4)

Guess How Much I Love You  by Sam Mcbratney
Another sweet story around the bedtime ritual which shows us how much Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare love each other.  It has lovely pastel illustrations and is a heartwarming piece. (ages 2 ½ - 5)

A Quilt for Baby  by Kim Lewis
This book is about a mother who is sewing a quilt for her new baby and with each square she captures their life on the farm as well as her love for this new baby.  It is beautiful and a treasure about the celebration of humans living in harmony with animals, the land, the wind, and the sunlight and the natural world.  (ages 2-4)

The Way Mothers Are  by Miriam Schlein
A very old book that has been reprinted because the message is still an important and powerful one - unconditional love.  It shows in a very simple and direct way that Mothers love their child just because they are themselves and not because they are good.  It captures true life with young children with a lovely message.  (ages 2-5)

Our Nest  by Reeve Lindbergh
Gentle rhyming text takes us to different places around us - nests.  Nests for us and for animals all around and then the earth is also a nest.  It is a beautiful way to show a child the interconnectedness of us all.  It is very warm and comforting.  (ages 2-5)

Hush Little Baby  by Sylvia Long
In this enchanting version of the beloved lullaby, award winning artist Sylvia Long has drawn upon her favorite childhood bedtime memories of reading and singing with her own children to create a classic board book to be treasured for generations to come. (birth to age 5)
