Welcome

Welcome to our website.  We are proud of our program and our role in helping many parents achieve their wishes for families.  The Vermont Center for Reproductive Medicine has had an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) program for over a decade now; our first IVF baby was born in 1989 - so far our program has helped conceive approximately 450 babies, with about a half in the last three years.

The Vermont Center for Reproductive Medicine is a joint program of two non-profit entities: Fletcher Allen Health Care, and the University of Vermont.  We pride ourselves in providing superlative advanced reproductive care to infertile couples, with a high degree of personal interaction, compassion, and at as low a cost as possible.  Our motivations are to help the people of Vermont and the surrounding regions utilize this technology optimally, and to train future specialists in the field.  Indeed, we have one of the most sought after fellowships in reproductive endocrinology in America.

We know that In Vitro Fertilization is always a gamble for infertile couples - often expensive, and ongoing.  Accordingly, we have worked unceasingly to improve our per-cycle pregnancy rate; our pregnancy rate for 2005 (per retrieval) was 30.9% and 40.9% for 2006.  To get a comprehensive look at our rates, click here.  To get this type of success, we do not accept only the best candidates, or frequently cancel cycles; in fact our cancellation rate is 15.7%, quite low.  We also don't replace inordinate numbers of embryos; the average number we replaced in 2005 (per transfer) was 2.39, and in 2006 was 2.09.  In fact, in 2004, our IVF progrm was recognized by the Quality Assurance Committee for SART as a program providing "Excellence in patient care" based on our low number of embryos transferred per cycle, while maintaining a high success rate.  Lastly, our cost of $7,300 per standard IVF cycle is well below the average, and while our cost doesn't include drugs, it does include anesthesia services, to provide a painless egg retrieval (the cost is of course subject to change).  It's clear our whole focus is to minimize the adverse impacts of this therapy, while maximizing our patient's chances of success.

We hope that you enjoy our website.  Click on the links to get more specific information.  We very much look forward to meeting and helping you.
