Education
The Women's Health Care Service (WHCS) at Fletcher Allen Health Care provides educational programs for medical students, resident physicians, subspecialty fellows, practicing physicians, and for patients.
As part of the University of Vermont College of Medicine curriculum, the medical student programs offered by the WHCS include clinical instruction in Obstetrics and Gynecology during the 3rd year Clinical Clerkship and the 4th year Senior Electives.
The WHCS physician-faculty provide a four-year specialty education for resident physicians in Obstetrics and Gynecology. This ACGME accredited program provides comprehensive clinical and surgical education and qualifies our resident graduates to apply for specialty board certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The WHCS also offers three-year training programs in our Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship program and in our Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility fellowship program. These two American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology accredited programs provide subspecialty clinical education and experience in biomedical research.
Continuing medical education is provided by the WHCS for practicing physicians in the greater Burlington area and northern New England. Our continuing medical education is provided by several venues, including clinical meetings and seminars, Grand Rounds conferences, and an annual Ob/Gyn postgraduate course.
The WHCS physicians provide our patients with informal and formal educational opportunities. Informal education on various topics in the area of Women's Health is provided to our patients as part of the routine clinical care provided by our physicians. Our physicians also provide formal patient education during health seminars, conferences and patient-oriented lectures. Some of these formal patient education venues include the FAHC sponsored Community Health Lectures and the UVM sponsored Community Medical School.
