About Us:

The Breast Imaging Section at Fletcher Allen Health Care offers a team of specialists
for every procedure, whether you are having a
routine mammogram, undergoing evaluation
of a breast problem, or need a breast biopsy.
We perform over 25000 mammograms per
year on state of the art digital equipment including computer aided detection software (CAD), a
clinically proven tool that can achieve significantly greater cancer detection rates. Our staff includes nationally certified breast imaging radiologists, mammography technologists and medical sonographers with extensive combined experience
in breast imaging. Mammograms are read by a team of physicians who have advanced training in radiology and who specialize in breast imaging.

The Breast Imaging Section is located in the
Breast Care Center, at Fletcher Allen, on level 2 in the Main Pavillion.  Screening mommograms are offered at the Medical Center Campus and also at the Fanny Allen Hospital and the Unviersity Health Center Campus at 1 South Prospect Street.

What Every Woman
Needs to Known About
Breast Cancer

Early Detectionon
is Your Best Protection

One of the keys to the increasing breast cancer survival rate is early detection. Of women whose breast cancer is detected in its earliest stages, 96% have at least a five-year survival rate. It is so important for every woman to follow these screening guidelines:
• Monthly breast self- examination starting
at age 20
• Women in their 20s and 30s should have a clinical breast exam as part of a regular health exam by a health professional, preferably every 3 years. After age 40, women should have a breast exam by a health professional every year.
• Annual mammogram beginning at age 40
• Screening Breast MRI is considered for women at increased risk for developing breast cancer based on their family history. New 2007 American Cancer Society Guidelines are being followed at the Breast Care Center. Providers at the Center will evaluate patients’ risk and make recommendations for screening based on that risk.
