As an academic teaching hospital, Vermont Children's has a special responsibility to educate the next generation of pediatric care providers.  Here, nursing students, medical students, residents and other medical professionals-in-training gain a comprehensive understanding of the best practices of family-centered care.

Our commitment to education is also evidenced in the annual accolades achieved by members of the Vermont Children's medical staff in their academic roles at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. The University's Department of Pediatrics, which includes all Vermont Children's physicians, is consistently named Clinical Department of the Year or runner-up. Also, the College of Medicine's Clinical Faculty Teacher of the Year often hails from our staff.

Several of our faculty members are editors of leading publications on national children's health issues and serve on the National Board of Medical Examiners and American Board of Pediatrics.

Our educational mission extends beyond the walls of Vermont Children's Hospital to health care professionals in the community and throughout the country.  Each week, Vermont Children's Hospital presents educational forums attended by community physicians from across Vermont and northern New York. Our pediatric physicians and surgeons speak and teach at other institutions around the country and world and many hold leadership positions in national educational and clinical organizations. In addition, education conferences are also held throughout the year for parents and children in schools and communities throughout our service area.
