In addition, the Fellow is expected to participate in the two weekly continuous series of Neuromuscular Conferences and Journal Clubs, and the weekly Neuromuscular Ward Rounds.
Bi-weekly muscle and nerve pathology sessions are held jointly under the direction of Dr. William Pendlebury, Chief of the Neuropathology Service. These sessions cover ongoing training in the pathological diagnosis and investigation of patients with neuromuscular diseases.
The Fellow will rotate through the peripheral electrophysiology laboratory under the direction of Dr. Timothy Fries to gain experience in the electrophysiological investigation of patients with neuromuscular diseases.
Clinical training is enhanced by experience in the weekly neuromuscular disorders clinic and the monthly ALS clinic. Fellows are involved in EMG sessions 3 or 4 times per week, and in the review of muscle and nerve biopsy specimens biweekly. Neuromuscular seminars encompassing the spectrum of diseases are held biweekly.
Fellows are expected to initiate and complete a research project during their tenure.
Training is expected to fulfill the requirements for examination by the American Association of Electromyography and Electrodiagnosis and the ABPN's Added Qualification for Clinical Neurophysiology. |
