Teaching Program (link missing "for more info" below) The cornerstone of the teaching program is the close daily contact with the staff in the operating room, on the wards, in conferences, in the outpatient departments, and in the research laboratories. There is a daily comprehensive didactic teaching schedule for residents. Teaching Conferences Orthopaedic Grand Rounds - Every Thursday at 7:00 a.m. Orthopaedic Anatomy - Every Thursday at 7:00 a.m. during the summer Resident Academic and Basic Science Conferences - Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6:30 a.m., Fridays at 7:00 a.m. Journal Club - 1st Monday of each month Visiting Professors - By invitation Radiology Conference - Every Monday morning at 6:30 a.m. Specialty Journal Clubs - Visiting Professor Lecture Series are held six times per year and have included numerous nationally prominent figures. The Lecture Series are: - John W. Frymoyer Lecture Series The John W. Frymoyer Lecture Series emphasizes the close relationship of clinical and basic science research. The Nathaniel Gould Foot and Ankle Lecture Series focuses on the topics of foot and ankle. Pediatric orthopaedics is the scope of the Joseph S. Barr Visiting Consultant Lecture Series. The Sports Medicine Lecture Series rounds out the program. As part of the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program, the resident is held responsible for certain aspects of the teaching of his fellow residents, interns, medical students, nurses, and paramedical personnel. There are two-week elective rotations for third year medical students, while fourth year medical students may elect a month's acting internship on orthopaedics. More Information on Medical Student Rotations (links to somewhere?..) ***** Conferences Residents have the opportunity to attend nationally sponsored courses to complement their orthopaedic education. PGY-5 residents attend the Orthopaedic Research Society and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meetings, as well as the Maine Orthopaedic Review Course. PGY-4 residents attend the University of Florida Orthopaedic Pathology Course. The Saint Justine Pediatric Orthopaedic Course in Montreal is the selection for the PGY-3 year. The Orthopaedic Trauma Association Trauma Course is recommended for the PGY-2 residents. Our residents are encouraged to present their research at scientific meetings. |
