Cytopathology Center Of Excellence

Offerings of the Fletcher Allen Health Care Cytopathology Center of Excellence

In November 2003, Fletcher Allen Health Care's Cytopathology Department was designated as a "Center of Excellence" by the American Society of Cytopathology. FAHC is one of only four institutions to currently to hold this designation. The Center of Excellence program is intended to identify institutions excelling in service, research, education and patient advocacy, coupled with the ability to serve as an educational resource to pathologists and cytotechnologists in their immediate region and nationally.

Below is a list of the educational offerings and resources provided by the Fletcher Allen Center of Excellence.

  • Individualized refresher sessions for cytotechnologists and pathologists
    in the form of a 1-2 week individually designed program
  • FNA exposure rotations for visiting residents and cytopathology fellows from other institutions
    in the form of 1 month rotations
  • ThinPrep exposure for cytotechnologists, cytotechnology students and pathologists

    • in the form of individual refresher courses
    • by contribution of ThinPrep slides to proficiency testing programs
    • by contribution of ThinPrep slides/samples to other cytotechnology training programs
  • Lending library of current educational materials in Cytopathology 
    previous ASC, ASCP and Teleconference of Texas teleconferences (over 100 teleconferences available)
  • Weekly Cytopathology CE sessions for pathologists and residents alternating between
    Up-Date Lectures and Interesting Case Microscopy Sessions (Tuesday mornings 7:30-8:30)
  • HPV Educational Program - What Adolescents Need to Know! 
    HPV Notebook and Presentation
  • Conduit for cytotechnologists and pathologists interested in participating in the Grounds for Health, non-profit program providing cytology services to rural Mexico

  • Support of cytopathology educational sessions for pathologists, residents, cytotechnologists and cytotechnology students

  • General resource in Cytopathology - Members of the Center of Excellence welcome questions pertaining to all aspects of Cytopathology including diagnostic, regulatory, management, education, advances in technology and computer systems.
