Phlebotomy
Personnel
Director: Ronald Bryant, MD
Lynn Bryan, Manager
Phlebotomy is staffed by approximately thirty-five employees, including the phlebotomy supervisor and four lead phlebotomists. Phlebotomy provides services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings at the main FAHC campus and at the Fanny Allen Campus. 24-hour service is available for inpatients. In addition, service is provided from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. for outpatients at various outpatient laboratory locations. Phlebotomy also travels to five area nursing homes to obtain samples. The phlebotomy team draws blood from approximately 225 inpatients and 300 outpatients daily. These patients range from newborns to the elderly, from healthy young people to the chronically ill. The leads and experienced phlebotomists train newly recruited employees. The recruits are mentored for twelve weeks. FAHC phlebotomists also train UVM Clinical Laboratory Science students, nurses, and other health-care providers how to use proper phlebotomy techniques.
